Bill Stokes

Burlington-Bill Stokes, age 84 went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, March 17, 2015. He was a native of Rockingham County and the husband of the late Joyce Saunders Stokes. Bill retired from A T & T after 36 years and was a member of the Telephone Pioneers of America. He was a member of Tabernacle Baptist Church and a veteran of the US Army serving with the Corp of Engineers. Bill was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. Survivors include his sons, Keith "Sandy" Stokes and wife, Cyndi of Burlington and Terry Lynn Stokes and wife, Jennifer of Burlington; grandchildren, Patrick Stokes, Natalie Stokes, Alyssa Stokes, Thomas Stokes and Michael Riddle; step grandson, Jeff Ball and a late step grandson, Mike Ball; great grandchildren, Jackson Stokes, Elizabeth Stokes and Brandon Riddle and step great grandchildren, Mattie Ball and Michael Ball; sister, Peggy Ann Beckworth of Conway, SC. He was preceded in death by his wife, Joyce Saunders Stokes; parents, Charlie Allen and Susie Pearl Gallagher Stokes and brothers, John B. Stokes and Charlie Stokes, Jr. A private entombment will be held at Alamance Memorial Park Mausoleum. The family will receive friends from 1:00-2:00 pm on Thursday, March 19, 2015 at Lowe Funeral Home and Crematory and other times at the home of Terry and Jennifer Stokes.
