Burl Shepherd

Burl Shepherd, age 95, formerly of S. NC Hwy 49 passed away on Thursday, June 11, 2009 at Alamance Regional Medical Center. He was a native of Alamance County and the husband of the late Opal Thompson Shepherd. Burl was the owner and operator of the Bellemont Service Station for 50 years. He was a member of Bellemont United Methodist Church where he served as the cemeterian for many years. Burl served in the Pacific Theatre during WW II in the US Army where he participated in the battle of Guadalcanal. Survivors include two step grandchildren and a niece, Nancy Holmes Ridenhour of Winston-Salem, NC. He was preceded in death by his wife, parents, Charlie Patterson and Alice Capps Shepherd; brother, J. D. Shepherd and a sister, Carrie Beal. The family would like to thank Hilda Brown and the staff at Sheridanville in Mebane for their kind and compassionate care for Burl over the past four years. The funeral service will be held on Saturday, June 13, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. at the Lowe Funeral Home Chapel by Rev. Jimmy Nickelston and the burial will follow at Bellemont United Methodist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 9:45 until 10:45 a.m. prior to the service on Saturday at the funeral home.
