Elizabeth Scott

Mebane Elizabeth Scott, age 89, is now rejoicing in the presence of her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Elizabeth will be remembered for a love for Christ that spawned a selfless, gracious love for others. She embraced God's glory as her life's purpose. In spite of many trials, she clung to her faithful God with a tenacity that stood the test of time. Jesus was all the world to Elizabeth, and her life was evidence of His glory and grace. Elizabeth was born on September 26, 1918 in Lumberton, NC She was preceded in death by her parents, Leanna DeVane Malone Howell and Murdock Malone, her husband, James F. Scott, two children, Joyce Scott and Richard Scott, three brothers, and a dear sister, Ann Malone Riley. Elizabeth moved to Burlington in late 1936; she met her beloved James in the spring of 1937 and married in July of that year. Elizabeth and James worked in the Wilmington shipyard during WWII; she was a real "Rosy the Riveter". After returning to Alamance County, they were privileged to find a house for sale in the Lakeview community. There Bett, as her friends called her, began a lifelong friendship with many dear people, especially with Lucy Oliver, her next door neighbor. James and Lib became charter members of a mission church pastored by Mr. J.A. Lowe; this church eventually became Lowe Memorial Church. Following the death of James in 1966 and her retirement from Western Electric in 1980, Elizabeth who was now known and loved as Granny Scott, moved to Mebane to be nearer her family. The move was very beneficial to her. She began a new church relationship with the dear people at Grace Reformed Baptist Church; she began a wonderful friendship with her neighbor, Hazel Hendrix; and she bagan a 2nd part time career working at JDK Clothing Warehouse for her son and his brother-in-law, Ken Walker. She is survived by her son, David Malone Scott and his wife Lucy, two grandchildren, Julie Scott Emmons and her husband, Karl and Jason Malone Scott and his wife, Rebekah and one dearly loved great-grandson, Jacob Scott Emmons. She is also survived by her sisters, Maxine Morgret of Lumberton, NC, Marcelle Riddle of Louisville, KY and Patsy Dunham of Fayetteville, NC and many special nieces and nephews. The family would like to thank the wonderful staff of Hospice and Palliative Care of Alamance-Caswell, with special recognition going to mother's lead nurse, Debbie Bolick, her social worker, Bonnie Moss, and her special CNA, Joanna Kelley. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Thursday May 29, 2008 at the Grace Reformed Baptist Church, 939 South Third Street, Mebane, NC. The family will receive friends on Wednesday from 6-9 PM at Lowe Funeral Home, 2205 S. Church St., Burlington, NC. Interment will follow in Alamance Memorial Park. At other times the family will be at the home of David and Lucy Scott, 1777 Foxhall Lane, Mebane. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that memorial donations be made to something that was very dear to Elizabeth, the work of gospel ministry in the Far East. Memorials should be designated "Far East Fund" and directed to Grace Reformed Baptist Church; P.O. Box 221, Mebane, NC 27302. You may sign the online register book at www.lowefuneralhome.com
