Evelyn McAlister

Mrs. Evelyn Jones McAlister, age 88, formerly of Bason Rd. passed away Friday, August 18, 2006 at Presbyterian Home at Hawfields. A native of Alamance County, she was the daughter of the late Joseph Y. and Ada Patterson Jones and wife of the late Thurston Blease McAlister . She was a member of Haw River Christian Church where she taught Sunday School for many years. She owned and operated Faith Book Store for 25 years and was on the Board of Christian Booksellers Assoc. for a number of years. Mrs. McAlister was instrumental in the founding of Alamance Christian School and served on the board for 3 years She is survived by a son, Duffie E. and wife Joyce McAlister of Mebane; daughters Betty Gooch and husband Jimmy of Burlington and Terry Lynn McAlister of Prospect Hill and Belinda Carter of Wilmington; 10 grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren and 5 great great grandchildren. Preceding her in death was her husband; parents; 4 brothers, Luther Jones, Authur Jones, Jack Jones and John Jones; 6 sisters, Lula Brown, Ora Jones, Ollie Brown, Effie Workman, Blanche Thomasson and Ruth Wagner. Funeral services will be held at 3:00 PM Sunday, August 20, 2006 at Haw River Christian Church by Rev. Jim Rosser and Rev. George M. Phillips. Interment will follow in Graham Memorial Park. Mrs. McAlister will remain at Lowe Funeral Home and Crematory until being taken to the church to lie in state 30 minutes prior to the funeral service. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6-8 PM Saturday and at other times at the home of Duffie McAlister, 3671 Bason Rd. Mebane, NC.
