Everette Shelton

Burlington, NC Everette Shelton, age 90, of Carolina Avenue went home to be with the Lord on Friday, October 2, 2009 at the Hospice Home. He was a native of Rockingham County and the husband of 71 years to Elsie Allred Shelton who survives. Everette retired from Culp Weaving and was a member of the First Baptist Church of Alamance. He was a veteran of the US Army Air Corp serving during WW II in the European Theatre with the 668th Bombardment Squadron. He was an avid golfer and gardener who enjoyed spending time with his family. Survivors include his wife, Elsie Allred Shelton of the home; daughters, Kathryn Davis and her husband, Leroy of Summerfield, Florida, Nancy Mays of Efland, Alice Hanks and her husband, Frank of Burlington; son, Dan Shelton and his wife, Patty of Gibsonville; eleven grandchildren, fourteen great grandchildren and two great, great grandchildren; sisters, Dora Holt of High Point and Mildred Finchner of Gastonia. He was preceded in death by a great grandchild, Gary Gibson; parents, Walter Everette and Lula Ethel Shelton; son-in-law, Esten Mays; sisters, Eunice Flynn and Edna Vaughn; brothers, Robert, Walter and Luther Shelton. The Shelton family would like to thank the nurses and staff of Hospice for their kindness and care over the past month for Everette. The funeral service will be held on Sunday, October 4, 2009 at 4:00 p.m. at the Lowe Funeral Home Chapel and the burial will follow at Pine Hill Cemetery with military honors provided by the 82nd Airborne Division. The family will receive friends from 2:30 until 3:45 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home and other times at the residence.
