George Kernodle

George Clarence "Sam" Kernodle, 70, of 973 Kernodle Road, died Tuesday, February 26, 2008 at Annie Penn Memorial Hospital. A native of Alamance County, he was the husband of 49 years to Laura Mansfield Kernodle and the son of the late John George Kernodle and the late Myrtle Isley Kernodle. Sam was known as a "jack of all trades" but his lifelong love was farming. He was always ready with a helping hand when needed and he was a charter member of St. Luke's United Methodist Church. Survivors include his wife, Laura Mansfield Kernodle of the home; a son, George Brian Kernodle and his wife Vikki of Gibsonville; four-step grandchildren; two-step-great grandchildren; and a sister-in-law, Hilda Kernodle of Elon. Sam was preceded in death by a brother, John Lewis Kernodle, a sister, Dorothy Kernodle Gentry, and five half-sisters, Leila Bradsher, Ruth Ivey, Gertrude Harris, Georgis Sharpe, and Mildred Zimmerman. A funeral service will be held 2:00 p.m. Friday, February 29, 2008 at Lowe Funeral Home Chapel by Rev. Tommy Privette. Interment will follow at Evergreen Memory Gardens in Reidsville. Visitation will be held 6-8 p.m. Thursday evening at Lowe Funeral Home and Crematory and at other times the family will be at the home.
