John Johnson

John Lewis Johnson, age 83, of Holmes Way, formerly of Shirley Dr. in Burlington, NC was called home on Monday, August 2, 2010. He was born April 30, 1927 in Cincinnati, OH to Clare Brophy Johnson and William Earl Johnson of Hazard, KY. At an early age, his family moved to Asheville, NC, where John grew up. He served in the US Navy during WWII on a troop transport ship in the Pacific. John was a CPA and spent his career at Kayser-Roth and Annedeen Hosiery. He was a life-time member of the Knights of Columbus at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, where he served as treasurer for 28 years. For many years, along with his wife, Jeri, John donated his time delivering Meals on Wheels and preparing taxes for the elderly and AARP members. John was an avid golfer and he spent many hours with his wife, sons, grandsons and friends playing the area courses. He was also an avid bridge player and played in a local league and in tournament play. John was blessed with a long retirement and, along with Jeri, traveled when they could and visited many wonderful places around the world. He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Jerita "Jeri" Miller Johnson, sons, Michael Johnson and wife Cindy of Asheville, NC, Stephen Johnson and wife Karen of Elon, NC, and Richard Johnson and wife Anne of Tucson, AZ, daughter, Lisa J. Curtis of Belmont, NC, sister Joyce J. Klose of Los Gatos California, eight grand children and two great-grand children. A funeral mass will be held at 11:00 am Thursday at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church 408 W. Davis St. Burlington, NC 27215 by The Very Rev. Robert Benko, OFM Conv, V.F. John's family will welcome friends and relatives Wednesday evening from 6-8 pm at Lowe Funeral Home and Crematory and other times at the home of Steve and Karen Johnson, 114 Branchwood Dr., Elon, NC. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Blessed Sacrament Building Fund, PO Box 619 Burlington, NC 27216.
