Kenneth Smart

Kenneth Smart, 82, of 1812 Greentree Rd., died Friday, December 19, 2008 at the Hospice Home after six months of decling health. Born in McAlpin, WV, he was the son of the late Grover Cleveland Smart and the late Goldie May Williams Smart and was married for over 25 years to Mrs. Erma Trollinger Smart, who survives. He was a U. S. Navy Veteran of WWII and served in the Pacific Theater. Kenneth retired from AT&T with over 41 years of service, was a member of Ireland St. Chapel and was a Lifeline Volunteer for several years. Kenneth is survived by his wife of the home; two daughters, Pamela Smart Moody and her husband, Manly, of Gibsonville and Patricia Smart Covington and her husband, Jim, of Mebane; a son, Paul Terry Smart and his wife, Pam, of Mebane; two step sons, Jay Andrews and Jeff Andrews and his wife, Pam, all of Burlington; three grandchildren, Amy Ruth Henderson, Kenneth A. Henderson and Kristen Covington Bowden; two step grandchildren, April Crawford and Jon Andrews and two step great grandchildren, Austin Crawford and Kayle Andrews; six brothers, Percy Smart of Graham, Gene Smart of Doswell, VA, Charles Smart of Georgia, G.C. Smart of Gainesville, FL, Harold Smart of Charlottesville, VA, and Fred Smart of Stuart, VA. He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Eva Shockley; and three brothers, Buren Smart, John Smart and Perry Smart. The funeral service will be conducted at 2:00 PM Sunday, December 21, 2008 at Lowe Funeral Home Chapel by Mr. Larry Batts. Interment will follow at Alamance Memorial Park. The family will receive friends starting at 1:00 PM Sunday prior to the service at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice and Palliative Care of Alamance-Caswell, 914 Chapel Hill Rd., Burlington, NC 27215. The family would like to extend a special thanks to the staff of the Hospice Home and Dr. Teresa Tullo and her staff for their exceptional care over the past several months.
