Elon- Mr. Kermit Lovell, 83, of 110 Franz Ct. went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, June 10, 2009 at his residence. Mr. Lovell was born July 14, 1925 in Danville, VA to the late John Claude and Geneva Rigney Lovell. Kermit retired after 30 years of service with Western Electric, was a US Navy veteran serving on the USS Compton Destroyer in WWII. He was a member of the National Association for Amateur Radio, where he was involved with Hamm radios helping missionaries communicate with their families from foreign countries to America. He was a banjo player for the bluegrass bands, Piedmont Pioneers and the Dan River Boys. Survivors include his wife of 56 years, Marie Mundy Lovell of the home; daughter Alyssa Marie Lovell of Elon; three brothers, James Lovell of Providence, NC, Jack Lovell and Bud Lovell both of Danville, VA.; two sisters, Ann Carden of Danville, VA and Lucy Barker of Dallas, TX; many nieces and nephews; and his K-9 companion "Piper". Mr. Lovell was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Ed Lovell. A funeral service will be held at 2:00 pm on Sunday, June 14, 2009 at Lowe Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Bud Wrenn officiating. Entombment will follow at Alamance Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 4-6 pm Saturday evening at the funeral home and at other times at the home.
