MIKE PAPPAFOTIS Emanuel John "Mike Pappafotis, age 86, passed away Thursday, August 2, 2012 at the Hospice Home of Alamance-Caswell in Burlington. A native of Washington, DC, he was the son of John Spero and Anna Korre Pappafotis and husband of the late Christine Stephenson Pappafotis to whom he was married for 53 years. Mike was a proud Army Air Force Veteran of WWII. He grew up in Washington, DC where he was an all-star athlete in high school and a Golden Gloves boxer. He raised his family and retired in Columbus, GA where he was a founding member of the Holy Transfiguration Greek Orthodox Church. He was retired from Overnight Transportation, was a past president of the Traffic Club of Columbus and an active member of the Valley Seniors Golf Association. His home for the past two years has been at Cedar Ridge Retirement in Burlington where he was crowned "King of Cedar Ridge" at the 2012 Valentines Dance. He loved to walk, play golf, fish and spend time with his family. He loved to "dance with pretty girls", drink a Bud Lite and enjoy life. He always carried a smile and lit up the room when he entered. Mike was a happy man and everyone who knew him loved him. Survivors include his daughter, Patricia Pappafotis Brothers and husband Michael D. Brothers of Gibsonville; sons, Michael J. Pappafotis and wife Susan Thornton of Kennesaw, GA and Paul J. Pappafotis and wife Kristine Evans of Snellville, GA; grandchildren; Christina Pappafotis-Bogle of Lewisburg, TN, Jason Michael Pappafotis and wife Stacie of Symrna, TN, Lesleigh Ann Caulder and husband Nick of Hickory, NC, Laura Brothers of Charlotte, NC, Ryan Paul Pappafotis and Lauren Elizabeth Pappafotis of Snellville, GA, Mary Miles Pumphrey of Kennesaw, GA, Jennifer Brothers Weegar and husband Scott of Charlotte, NC and Laura Brothers of Charlotte, NC. great grandchildren; Cameron Blaize Bogle, Michael Justice Bogle, Sophia Rose Pappafotis, Olivia Lane Pappafotis, Benjamin Davis Pumphrey, Luke Mason Pumphrey, Carter Scott Weegar and Conner James Weegar; siblings, Spero Pappafotis, George Pappafotis, Dena Melzer and Toby Kinnaham all of the Washington, DC area; and sister-in-law, Nettie Pugh of Columbus, GA. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Chris and sister, Mary Pappafotis. A funeral service will be held at 4:00pm Saturday, August 4, 2012 in the Lowe Funeral Home Chapel by Rev. Fr. George P. Vlahos. The family will receive friends following the service at Lowe Funeral Home. On Monday, August 6, 2012 at 11:00am there will be a funeral service at the Holy Transfiguration Greek Orthodox Church in Columbus, GA. Interment will follow in Parkhill Cemetery; 4146 Macon Rd.
