Gibsonville, NC Paul Lockhart, age 85, of Cotton Court went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, April 3, 2010 at Alamance Regional Medical Center. He was a native of Woodman, Kentucky and the husband of 66 years to Violet Combs Lockhart. Paul retired from Western Electric after 37 years and was a member of the Telephone Pioneers of America. He was a longtime member of Harvest Hills Church of God where he served in the past as church clerk, deacon, usher and Sunday School teacher. Paul was a veteran of the US Army serving in the 108th Infantry division during WWII. H e was part of the Normandy invasion force serving in the European Theatre receiving 2 purple hearts in combat. Paul belonged to the VFW Post#10607, American Legion and the DAV. He was the first driver of the DAV van transporting veterans to VA in Durham. Paul participated for over 7 years with the Senior Olympics playing a variety of sports. He was also an avid bowler playing in the Sunshine Gang Bowling League. Survivors include his wife, Violet Combs Lockhart; daughters, Judy Lockhart Kerr of Gibsonville, Paulette Edwards and Sandy McHann and her husband Keith, all of Starkville, Mississippi; brother and sister-in-law, Howard and Faye Combs of Greensboro; grandchildren, Brooke and Joel Edwards; great grandchildren, Nick and Austin Wylie and a sister, Madge Smith of Atlanta, Georgia. He was preceded in death by his parents, Elmer and Roxie Lockhart; brothers, Ervin, Wheeler, Woodrow, Harold and Bill Lockhart. A service to celebrate his life will be held on Tuesday, April 6, 2010 at 2:00 p.m. at the Harvest Hills Church of God by Dr. Russell Morris and the entombment will follow at Alamance Memorial Park Mausoleum with military honors by the US Army. The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m. on Monday at Lowe Funeral Home and Crematory and other times at the home. Memorials may be made to Harvest Hills Church of God Building Fund, 3110 S. Maple Avenue, Burlington, NC 27215.
