Roscoe Portis

Roscoe Portis, 89, went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, April 5, 2006 at Alamance Regional Medical Center after four years failing health and a two week critical illness. He was born in Mt. Airy, son of the late Rufus Monroe Portis and the late Amelia Ann Gardner Portis, and was married to the late Agnes Viola Shanklin Hinshaw Portis. He retired from Burlington Industries after 30 years, was a U.S. Army veteran and a member of Christian Bible Fellowship. He is survived by his son, Charles Woodson Portis of Lexington; stepson, Raymond Johnson and his wife Luvaghan of VA; sister-in-law, Mozelle Shanklin Hoggard of Burlington and a niece, Lib Rudd and her husband Linwood of Burlington. The funeral will be held at 11:30 AM Saturday at Christian Bible Fellowship by Rev. Bruce Readling. Burial will follow at Alamance Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 10 11 at the church prior to the service.
