Burlington – Zane Thomas Edwards, 90, went home to be with the Lord on Monday, October 7, 2019 following several years of failing health. He was born in Orange County on May 11, 1929 to the late Walter Thomas and Era Riley Edwards and was the husband of 69 years to Betty Sue Compton Edwards of the home.
Zane was a longtime member of Northside Presbyterian Church and was a US Army Veteran who served during the Korean War. He retired from Western Electric after many years of employment. He served as a Boy Scout leader and had a unique interest in airplanes. He was a loving husband and enjoyed spending time with his children and grandchildren.
Survivors include his wife, Betty; daughters, Rita Sue Holmes and Elia Ann Edwards; grandchildren, Melissa Harrelson (Eric), Joey Holmes (Melissa) and Benjamin Edwards (Meredith); great grandchildren, Aubrey and Mallory Harrelson, Payton Holmes, Kaylin Blanchard (Michael), and Zane, Henry, Adeline and Edythe Edwards and a great great granddaughter, Emory Blanchard. He was preceded in death by his parents and a son, Zane Ray Edwards.
A service to celebrate his life will be held at 2:00pm on Saturday, October 12, 2019 at Lowe Funeral Home Chapel by Rev. Jim Mitchell with the burial to follow at Alamance Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 12:30-1:45 prior to the service at the funeral home and other times at the home.
