Mr. Alden P. Wilson, 86, died Monday, February 7, 2011 at Edgewood Place in Burlington, NC after several months of failing health. Mr. Wilson was born in Oberlin, OH on August 28, 1924 to the late Paul A. Wilson and Hallowe'een Peabody Wilson. He was preceded in death by his wife of 58 years, Bernice F. Wilson. Mr. Wilson served during World War II in the Army 1567th Engineer Depot Company. After graduating from Case Western Reserve in Cleveland, OH with an M.S. in Library Science he married and took a position as Head Librarian at the Berkley, Michigan Public Library for 6 years. He served as Head Librarian at the St. Joseph, Missouri Public Library for 4 years before accepting the Head Librarian position at the Park Ridge, Illinois Public Library. During his 16 years of service there he oversaw the expansion of the library that doubled the physical size of the facility and greatly increased the amount and variety of offerings the library provided. Alden then obtained his CPA degree in 1981 and subsequently worked at The Youth Campus in Park Ridge, an organization dedicated to serving abused and neglected children. Mr. Wilson joined the Lions Club in 1952 and remained an active member until 1990. Mr. Wilson retired to Fearrington Village in Pittsboro, NC in 1987 where he and his wife lived until 2004, when they moved to the Village at Brookwood in Burlington. He is survived by his daughter Anne Manseau and her husband David of Charlotte, NC. There will be a memorial service at a later date.
