Alice Kumba Chowoe passed away on April 20, 2026 at 83 years old. She was born on March 10, 1943 in Yahladu, Lofa County, Liberia to the union of Tamba Boikai and Yehbeh Sia.
Ma Alice lived in Moisalo, Foya District before moving to Harbel Firestone after marrying John K. Chowoe who pre-deceased her. Ma Alice diligently raised her children and taught them the importance of hard work, charity, kindness and a deep relationship with God. She was the
moral compass of the family and sacrificed to make sure her children were cared for and knew the importance of education.
Our mother, grandmother, and great grandmother relocated to the USA in 1998 to care for her grandchildren. She lived with her daughter, Rebecca Nyumah and family in Kettering, Ohio for over twenty years. While in Ohio, she built a strong community with her Assembly of God church.
Upon the discovery of a life-changing illness, her granddaughter, Octavia Alice and husband, Kirk Richard graciously resettled her into their Burlington, NC home. She continued to care for her great grandchildren until she took her last breath while lying peacefully in the hands of her granddaughter, Octavia. Her final days on earth were spent bonding with her grand and great grandchildren surrounded by love.
Ma Alice, as she was fondly called, will always be remembered as a God-fearing woman, a loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother, community member and friend.
She will be deeply missed by her children, Johnny and Theresa Chowoe and Rebecca Nyumah; her niece, Elizabeth Ndarborlor; as well as a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren, family members, daughters-in-law, and friends.
She has now reunited in heavenly embrace with her husband John Chowoe; sons, Siafa and Augustine Chowoe; and daughter, Agnes Chowoe.
The family will receive friends from 4 - 7 PM on Friday, May 8 at Lowe Funeral Home Chapel. A celebration of Alice's life will be held at 11 AM on Saturday, May 9 at Lowe Funeral Home Chapel with burial to follow in Gibsonville City Cemetery.
Acknowledgements:
On behalf of the Chowoe, Nyumah and Richard families, we express our sincere thanks for the flowers, well wishes, financial and whatever contributions given for the home going of our mother, grandmother and great grandmother.
