Ann Burke Jones Sargent, 83, passed away on Saturday, December 6, 2025, at Liberty Commons Nursing and Rehab Center surrounded by her family. She was born on May 29, 1942, in Chatham County, NC.
Ann retired and dedicated her career to the admissions department at Alamance Regional Medical Center. Her welcoming personality meant that she never met a stranger, always extending a warm greeting and a smile that could light up any room. Her kindness was felt by many, leaving a lasting impression on everyone who had the privilege of knowing her. Ann had a passion for baking and cooking, often sharing her delicious creations with friends and family. She also loved crocheting hats and working on crossword puzzles.
Travel enriched Ann's life; she enjoyed visiting various places including California, England, and Germany. Ann also treasured time spent with her family and friends at the beach and in the mountains, creating memories that will be cherished forever.
She leaves behind her loving sons, James Michael Jones and his wife Shizuko and Allen Lee Jones and his wife April; her devoted daughter, Wendy Sue Sargent; and her grandchildren that she adored, Emily Bryant and husband James, Benjamin Jones and wife Heather, Danielle Shoffner, Marcus Shoffner, Derrick Shoffner and wife Lexi and Sakura Watabe and her husband Kazuki. Ann's legacy also includes her eleven great-grandchildren who brought her much joy and laughter.
In addition to her immediate family, Ann is survived by her brothers, William "Bill" Burke and his wife Rachel, Nicholas "Nicky" Hawkins and Eddie Burke and his wife Karen; her sisters, Vonda Groves and her husband Sherwood, Catherine Fox and Debbie Burke; as well as several nieces and nephews who cherished their time with her.
Ann was preceded in death by her parents, William Towns Burke and Mary Catherine Steele Hawkins, her husband of 28 years, John Norwood Sargent II, who passed away in 2018 and her brother, Bob Steele.
The funeral service to celebrate the life of Ann will be held at 2:00pm Friday, December 12, 2025 at Lowe Funeral Home Chapel by Rev. Roger Barefoot with the burial to follow at Alamance Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 12:30pm to 1:45pm Friday prior to the service at the funeral home and other times at the daughter’s residence in Burlington.
