Ann Cornelia Barber Harris, 68, went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, August 14, 2025 at the Hospice Home. She was born and raised in Alamance County and was the daughter of the late Henean Cornelius Barber and Myrtice Jolley Barber. She was married for 43 years to her beloved husband, David Ray Harris who survives.
Ann graduated from Western Alamance High School and Appalachian State University. She was a computer programmer and was previously employed at Shoffner Industries where her and David first met.
Ann loved to plan and take road trips throughout the US and always looked for different or unusual places to visit “on the way” to the destination. She loved decorating the house with items she discovered in their travels building a significant collection of dolls, furniture, and other collectible items, particularly from the antebellum period.
Ann loved pets and took care of many dogs and cats, and one rabbit, throughout her life. Her current dog, a collie named Koda, was her pride and joy and traveled with her wherever her travels took her. Her “granddog”, Niko, was particularly fond of Ann and always wanted to snuggle with Ann whenever they were together.
Ann loved her family. Four generations of family have looked to Ann for support to some level and she loved them and loved supporting them. She was the glue that held it together in many ways. Her husband and daughter, David and Liz, meant everything to her and she was always looking for ways to brighten their days and make them happy. And she never disappointed them.
Most of all, Ann loved Jesus and that was the source of all of the other love and joy in her life. Her faith was strong, confident and pure. As painful and frightening as her life became, she never lost faith in God and at one point, shared the Gospel for hours while in the hospital letting everyone know that Jesus loved them and died on the cross for them. She wanted everyone to know the joy of the assurance of salvation that is only found through repentance and belief in Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior.
Anyone that knew Ann well, knew that she was true, trustworthy and loving and they will remember her forever.
She is survived by her beloved husband, David and daughter, Elizabeth Ann “Liz” Harris. She was preceded in death by her parents and infant brother, William Henean Barber.
A service to celebrate her life will be held at 11:00 AM Monday, August 18, 2025 at Gibsonville City Cemetery by Pastor Reid Dickens. The family will receive friends following the graveside service.
