Annie Lou Hooper Rice died November 2, 2012 at St. Mary's Medical Center in Evansville, IN. She was born in Caswell County, NC on January 7, 1920 and was a lifelong resident of Alamance County, NC and more recently had resided in Newburgh, IN. Annie was the daughter of John Wright Hooper and Hattie Lela Reid Hooper. She was married for 52 years to Dewey H. Rice who was deceased in 1995. She is survived by her children, David Christine Rice of Newburgh, IN and Judy Rice Ron Hinsdale of Burlington, NC. Her grandchildren are Brandon Rebecca Hinsdale, Kim Andy Faucette, Dan Lori Rice, Jonathan Blackard, and Bob Lauren Rice. She also had three great-grandchildren. In addition to her children and grandchildren, Annie is survived by a brother, Buck Louise Hooper and sister, Jewell McAdams. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Dewey, brothers Lacy, Lewis, Hubert and Wilbur Hooper and sisters Fannie Barnwell and Bessie Hughes. Annie was the oldest living member of Bush Arbor Primitive Baptist Church in Caswell County, NC. She had a great love for her church and community. Her life was marked by the love of family and friends. She was never happier than when her children and grandchildren were together. She was never more pleased than when they were able to delight in the delicious meals she prepared with such great love. Annie especially enjoyed playing with and caring for her grandchildren in their younger years, spending untold hours playing cards and board games to the enjoyment of everyone. She also greatly enjoyed gardening with her husband and spending many enjoyable times canning and freezing the vegetables they grew. Annie was a patient, caring, loving and compassionate person who befriended all she encountered. She had a humble and unassuming spirit about her. She worked for many years as a dental assistant in Burlington, NC, serving others with kindness, understanding and a beautiful smile. Visitation and funeral services will take place on Saturday, November 10, 2012 at Lowe Funeral Home and Crematory, 2205 South Church Street, Burlington, NC. Visitation with the family will begin at 9:00-10:45 a.m. The funeral service will begin at 11:00 a.m. with internment to follow at the Bush Arbor Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery. The family of Annie Rice would like to express grateful appreciation to Dr. Karl Sash and the exemplary staff at Golden Living center Woodlands in Newburgh, IN for the wonderful care provided to her over many years. More recently the ICU Team, Palliative Care Team and Pastoral Care Team at St. Mary's Medical Center in Evansville, IN provided dedicated, professional and extremely caring support for which the family is deeply grateful.
