Avery Irby, Sr.

Avery Bennett Irby, Sr., 65, of 3208 Jim Lowe Dr., died on Wednesday, July 5, 2006 at the Hospice Home after a six year battle with cancer. He was born in Pittsylvania County, VA, son of the late Eugene Irby and the late Bessie Rowland Irby Matherly and was married to Vilda Brewer Irby, who survives. Avery was a member of People's Church in Mebane and was the owner/operator of Irby Construction Company for over 40 years. He is survived by his wife of the home, daughters, Tammy Kernodle and her husband Ricky of Pittsboro, Shelby Lipscomb of Burlington; son, Avery Irby, Jr. and his wife Tracy of Mebane; grandchildren, Nina Lipscomb, Junior Lipscomb, Ben Lipscomb, Jeff Lipscomb, Tony Lipscomb, Andy Lipscomb, Isaac Irby and Lisa Kernodle; brothers, Sherman "Joe" Irby and his wife Norma of Mebane, Leroy Matherly of Mebane; and sisters, Clara Pippin of Gretna, VA, Linda Epperson of Danville, VA and Juanita Price of Stoneville. The funeral will be held at 2:00 PM Saturday, July 8, 2006 at People's Church in Mebane by Rev. James W. Christopher, Rev. Linwood Straughn, and Rev. J.R. Hill. Burial will follow at Oakwood Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7-9 Friday evening at Lowe Funeral Home and Crematory and at other times at the residence.
