Barbara Moize Boon

Apr 24, 1937 — Aug 6, 2026

Burlington

Barbara Wrenn Moize Boon, 89, passed away peacefully on Thursday, August 6, 2026 at the Hospice Home, where she had been surrounded by her family. She was born on April 24, 1937 in Person County to the late Johnny Clinton Moize, Sr. and Mary “May” Wrenn Moize, and was the wife of 35 years to the late John Edward Boon who passed away in 1994.

Barbara retired from Duke University after 19 years of service as the Administrative Assistant to the Head of the Department of Economics. She grew up learning the Bible and playing the piano at Clement Baptist Church in Hurdle Mills, NC. She was a long-time member of First Baptist Church of Burlington where she met her husband. Singing in the Choir and attending her Sunday School Class always brought her great joy. She continued playing the piano all throughout her life and enjoyed listening and singing to music.

Her faith was the foundation of everything she did. Barbara loved reading her Bible, especially the Psalms, and often found comfort in writing meaningful Scripture verses in her journal as part of her daily devotions. She found happiness in God's creation, whether working in her yard, spending time outdoors, or visiting the mountains and the beach. Above all else, Barbara treasured the time she spent with her family. They were the greatest blessing of her life and her proudest accomplishment.

She is survived by her loving children, Robert Boon and his wife Katherine “Katie”, Catherine Boon Camacho and her husband Christopher “Chris”, Douglas Boon and Dan Boon; her grandchildren whom she adored, Dr. Mary Catherine Camacho and her fiancé Martin Graffigna, Christopher Camacho, Jr., Sophia Holt O’Neal and her husband Seth, and Frank Holt IV and his fiancée Catherine Goodwin; a sister, Sandra Moize; brothers, Lawrence Moize, Johnny C. Moize, Jr. and Earl Moize; and many nieces, nephews and special cousins.

Barbara has now been reunited with her beloved husband, John Edward Boon; parents, Johnny Moize and Mary “May” Moize; her step mother, Rachel Brooks Moize; and her sisters-in-law, Corina Moize and Cindy Moize that have preceded her in death.

The funeral service to celebrate the life of Barbara will be held at 2:00 PM Monday, August 10, 2026 at Lowe Funeral Home Chapel by Rev. Stacey Littell Grimm with the burial to follow at Alamance Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 12:00 PM to 1:45 PM Monday prior to the service at the funeral home and other times at Robert and Katie Boon’s residence.
