Barbara Jean Doby, 93, went on to be with the Lord and Savior on Friday, March 27, 2026. She was joyfully reunited with her beloved grandson, Johnny “Scotty”Lee Pruitt III, along with other cherished family members who preceded her in death.
A native of Alamance County, Barbara was the daughter of the late Alvis Eugene Sykes Jr and Annie Kathleen Foster Sykes. She was also preceded in death by her devoted husband, Richard Eugene Doby.
Barbara dedicated her life to caring for others through her work as a certified nursing assistant in home healthcare. She was truly selfless, always putting the needs of others before her own, and touching countless lives with her compassion and kindness.
A faithful and devoted member of Staley Memorial Baptist Church, Barbara was strong in her faith and lived her life as a testament to her love for the Lord. In her younger years, she found great joy in playing the piano, sharing her gift of music with those around her.
She will be remembered for her gentle spirit, unwavering faith, and the love she gave so freely to family, friends and her love for her animals.
She is survived by her children, Vickie Jean Pruitt Boltinghouse and Johnny Lee Pruitt Jr.(wife, Tracy Pruitt); stepchild, Diane May (husband, Mike); her grandchildren, Jeremy Modlin (wife, Regina), Missy Young (husband, Gary), Shannon Cote (husband, Tom), and Ryan Pruitt; her great-grandchildren, Morghan Lynch, Allison Modlin, Dylan Ashley , Jordan Modlin, Briana Modlin, Daniel Cote, Gary Young III, Haley Modlin, Matthew Cote, Samantha Cote, Casen Young, Landon Pruitt, Aiden Pruitt, and Johnny “Kurt” Pruitt IV; and her great-great-grandchildren, Kaidence Locklear and Ciera Modlin.
A service to celebrate her life will be held on Wednesday, April 1, 2026 at 2:00PM at Lowe Funeral Home Chapel by Rev. Rodney Staley. The burial will follow at Alamance Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 12:30-1:45PM on Wednesday prior to the service at the funeral home.
In lieu the family request donations to be made to hospice in her memory.
