Barry Adrian Johnson, age 60, went home to be with the Lord on January 15, 2026. He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Judith Johnson, and his sister, Sheri Johnson Thomas.
Barry is survived by his beloved wife, Terra Johnson; his daughters, Ashlynn Johnson Liberty and Adrienne Johnson; his cherished grandchildren, Camden Liberty, Nicholas Liberty, and William Liberty; his sister, Kristi Johnson; his brothers, Mike Vermilya and Steve Vermilya; and many nieces and nephews.
Barry was a devoted husband, loving father and grandfather, and a loyal friend. He was known for his warmth, generosity, and ability to make everyone he met feel welcome. A skilled carpenter, gifted salesman, master storyteller, and lifelong lover of music, Barry never met a stranger and was often the life of the room.
Above all else, Barry loved Jesus. His faith was not simply something he spoke about, it was something he lived daily.
In recent years, Barry faced many physical challenges, including heart failure, the need for a kidney transplant, loss of his eyesight, and an amputation. Through every hardship, his faith remained steadfast. He often said, “Do it again, God,” believing that each trial could become a testimony of God’s grace and faithfulness.
Barry knew this earthly body was temporary and trusted fully in the promise of renewal. Though hearts are broken, there is peace in knowing that he is now home and healed.
And he is hearing the words we all long to hear:
“Well done, good and faithful servant.”
The family will receive friends Friday, January 23, 2026 from 1:00-2:00 p.m. at Hearts on Fire Ministries, 302 Church Street, Gibsonville, North Carolina. A celebration of life service will immediately follow at 2:00 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Barry’s memory to the National Kidney Foundation.
