Mr. Bascom David Corky Brooks went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Sunday, June 25, 2006 after a courageous battle of sickness at Moses Cone Hospital. Mr. Brooks was born November 13, 1928 in Alamance County. He was the son of the late James William and Swannie Page Brooks. He was co-owner and operator of Brooks Brothers Paint and Paper Contracting for 30 years. He was a member of Staley Memorial Baptist Church and a member of the Eula Minor Sunday school class. Mr. Brooks was an Army veteran serving in Stuttgart, Germany. Survivors include his childhood sweetheart and wife of 59 years Mildred McBride Brooks of the home; son, David Brooks of Burlington; daughter, Geraldine Gerri Brooks of Burlington; a granddaughter, Melanie Cook of Haw River; great grandson, Johnathan Cook of Haw River; and a sister, Peggy Brooks McPherson of Burlington. The funeral service will be conducted at 2:00 PM Wednesday, June 28, 2006 at Lowe Funeral Home Chapel by the Rev. Bennie Smith, the Rev. Dr. Garry Baldwin, and the Rev. Rodney Staley. Interment will follow at Pine Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6-7:30 PM Tuesday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Staley Memorial Baptist Church, 1446 N. Graham Hopedale Rd. Burlington, NC 27217 or to the American Diabetes Association 801 W.
