Mrs. Betty Soots Smith, age 78, of 6799 Leaf Crest Dr, Apt 1, died Tuesday, November 6, 2012 at the Hospice Home after several months of failing health. Born in Guilford County, she was the daughter of the late Paris A. Soots and the late Emma Parrish Soots and was previously married to Theodore Roosevelt "Jeep" Smith, who died in 2003. She was retired from P. Lorillard Tobacco Company with over 30 years of service and was of the Baptist faith. She was an avid North Carolina Tarheel fan. Mrs. Smith is survived by her daughter, Penny S. Campbell and her husband, Al, of Burlington; three sons, J.T. Smith and his wife, Cindy, of Gibsonville, David Smith and his wife, Janice, of Graham and Ronnie Smith and his wife, Sherry, of Burlington; seven grandchildren, Kristie Whitehead, Carrie Clapp, Crystal Smith, A.J. Campbell, B.J. Smith, Danielle Smith and Alen Michael Smith; three great grandchildren, Kristen Hunter, Christia Cook and Tyler Whitehead; and a brother, Leonard "Butch" Soots of Burlington. She was preceded in death by her former husband; parents; a daughter, Connie S. Flynn; and two sisters, Agnes Evans and Beatrice "Tinkie" Wallace. The funeral service will be conducted at 2:00 PM Friday, November 9, 2012 at Lowe Funeral Home Chapel by Rev. Reid Dickens. Interment will follow at Alamance Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 6 - 8 Thursday evening at the funeral home and other times at the home of her son, J.T. Smith, 6305 Hwy 61 N., Gibsonville. The family would like to extend a special thanks to the staff of Hospice for the loving and compassionate care of Mrs. Smith.
