Billy Gordon Smith, 86, of Burlington died Sunday, July 17, 2022 following a brief illness. Born in Caswell County, he was the son of the late Willie Alford Smith and Emma Josephine Guthrie.
Billy was the owner and operator of Appointment Upholstery on Burch Bridge Road where he ran his shop for over 40 years. Billy’s shop was always open to customers, family and friends, and after hours you could always get in a good game of Mexican Train Dominos. He never met a stranger and loved to share stories with others while enjoying his much-loved pet cats. Billy was a member of Zion Christian Church where he attended for many years.
He was preceded in death by his only son, Samuel Keith Smith. Survivors include his wife, Joyce Frizell Smith of the home; one daughter, Laverne Smith Thompson and her husband, Lindale of Sneads Ferry; two grandsons, Samuel Jacob Smith and William Avery Smith, both of Burlington; daughter-in-law, Jamie Smith Deem of Burlington; one granddaughter, Crystal Lynn Overton of Greenville; two great grandchildren, Caleb Christopher Overton and Chloe Jade Overton, both of Greenville. Billy’s extended family includes one stepdaughter, Brona Frizell of the home; three step grandchildren and eight step great grandchildren.
The funeral will be held at 2:00 PM Wednesday, July 20, 2022 at Lowe Funeral Home Chapel with interment to follow in Alamance Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 6-8 PM Tuesday at the funeral home.
