McLeansville – Bobby Joe Thomas, 87, passed away Monday, November 30, 2020 at Alamance Regional Hospital. He was born December 17, 1932 in Guilford County to the late Wesley Layton and Sadie May Thomas. Joe was proud to serve in the US Army right after he graduated from Gibsonville High School. He was a simple, hardworking, and faithful husband, father and grandfather. Joe retired from AT&T after 32 years of service. He was a faithful Christian and attended Mount Hope United Church of Christ. He loved to farm and shared his garden and vegetables with many neighbors. His favorite pastime was hunting.
Joe is survived by his wife of 65 years, Evelyn Andrews Thomas of the home; sons: Don Thomas (Teresa) of Gibsonville, Steve Thomas (Merry) of McLeansville, and Mike Thomas (Laurie) of Gibsonville; grandchildren: Barry Thomas, Kyle Thomas, Kristin Schloder, Matthew Thomas and Nicholas Thomas ; great grandchildren: Katie, Alex, Mason, Jackson, Kenzie, Memphis and Lindsay; sister, Rachel Cook of Archdale; and many nieces and nephews.
Along with his parents, Joe was preceded in death by his brothers: Elmer, Garland, Ralph, and Willard Thomas; sister, Nellie Riddle; and a grandson, Jacob Quakenbush.
A graveside service will be held 2:00 PM Thursday, December 3, 2020 at Gibsonville Cemetery for family and close friends, and officiated by Rev. Kristin Gerner Vaughn. Joe will be available for viewing on Wednesday from 9:00 AM till 5:00 PM and Thursday morning from 8:00 AM till noon at Lowe Funeral Home.
