Elon, NC Boyd "Bud" Herman Spangler, age 76, passed away on Saturday, July 12, 2008 at his home surrounded by his family. He was a native of Cedar Hill, Ohio and a resident of Elon for 32 years. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Donna Rhymer Spangler. Boyd served in the US Navy during the Korean War from 1954 until 1960 aboard the USS "Intrepid" as an Aviation Electrician. He graduated Suma Cum Latta from Ohio University at Athens with an Engineering degree and later received a masters of Electrical Engineering from Fairleigh Dickinson University. Boyd retired from Bell Laboratories/AT & T/ Lucent Tech after 29 years, after which he was licensed as a General Contractor. He and his wife were active members of the Shallowford Squares and Lou's Two's Round Dance Club. Survivors include his wife of the home; daughters and sons-in-law, Deborah Deare and her husband, John of Greensboro, Pamela Chaney and her husband, Douglas of Gibsonville, Becky Terrell and Charles Terrell of Burlington; grandchildren, Jessica and Emily Deare, Debi Ann Chaney, Daniell Daniels, and Jacob Chaney, Sarah and Amanda Terrell; 5 great grandchildren; sister, Dona Jane Poling of Lancaster, Ohio. He was preceded in death by his parents, Boyd H. Spangler, Sr. and Clara Riegel Spangler; sisters, Phyllis Sheldon and Martha Hoover. A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, July 16, 2008 at 11:00 a.m. at the Lowe Funeral Home Chapel. The family will receive friends following the service at the funeral home and other times at the residence. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Hospice and Palliative Care of Alamance-Caswell, 914 Chapel Hill Road, Burlington, N C 27215.
