Brenda Gail King Oakley, 78, peacefully departed this life on Christmas Eve, Wednesday, December 24, 2025 at her daughter’s home, surrounded by love. She was born on January 9, 1947 in Alamance County to the late Walter “Bud” Jones King and Ruby Wilson Dix King.
Brenda dedicated many years to her career, spending fifteen meaningful years with AO Smith before transitioning to another role that brought her much joy—serving as a daycare assistant at Andrews Memorial Baptist Church Daycare for another fifteen years. Her nurturing spirit and compassion were evident in everything she did, whether it was helping children grow or supporting her colleagues and friends. She embodied a warm kindness that touched the hearts of many.
In her personal life, Brenda cherished memorable family beach trips, where laughter and love created lasting bonds. She adored shopping with her family and friends and took pride in maintaining her appearance, always enjoying trips to the salon for her hair and nails. Brenda was described as being spoiled by her husband, Buck, whose warmth and affection added to her cherished memories
Brenda’s home life was brightened by the love and care she received from her devoted husband of 58 years Richard Clarence “Buck” Oakley, Sr., who predeceased her in March 2025. To be spoiled by Buck was a testament to their loving partnership, one that served as a foundation for their family to flourish.
She leaves behind a devoted daughter, Mandy Oakley Bundren and her husband Mike; her daughter-in-law, Amy McIntyre Oakley; her grandchildren that she adored, Jamie Gray (Noah), Cassie Bundren (Drew), and Jordan Michael Oakley, as well as her great-grandchildren, Skylyn, Ella, and Lennon; her sister, Teresa Kernodle, and her husband Larry, as well as several nieces and nephews who have fond memories.
Brenda has now been reunited with her parents; her husband, “Buck”; her beloved sons, Chad Michael Oakley and Richard “Richie” Oakley, Jr.; and her canine companions, Sebastion and Cece, who gave her companionship and a lot of love throughout her life. Each of these losses left deep marks on her heart, yet her resilience and faith, rooted in her Baptist beliefs, provided her strength throughout her life.
A memorial service to celebrate the life of Brenda will be held at 2:00pm Sunday, January 4, 2026, at Lowe Funeral Home Chapel by Pastor Reid Dickens. The family will receive friends following the service.
