Calvin Jones Jeffries "Cal", Lt. Colonel U.S. Air Force Ret., passed away at his home on March 2nd 2012 of natural causes at the age of 76. He served valiantly for 28 years as a fighter pilot in the United States Air Force. He was awarded the Silver Star, Distinguished Flying Cross 3, and Air Force Commendation Medal 2, during his two combat tours in the Vietnam War. After retirement from the Air Force he served as Chief of Operations and later Chief of Human Services in the N.C. Division of the Federal Emergency Management Agency. "Cal" led an enriched and active life. Travelling was an integral part of his air force career, which he enjoyed and continued post retirement frequently traveling to Air Force "River Rats" Reunions and visiting friends and family around the world. He was passionate about farming, hunting and restoring old tractors, and enjoyed skiing the Alps and Colorado Rockies with his daughters. He was an outstanding member of the community, committed to helping others. "Cal" was enjoying his retirement years managing the 350acre farm in Northeast Alamance County on which he was born. He is survived by his daughters Jacqueline Jeffries, Sarah and Rebecca Jeffries, his granddaughters Hailey Grace Barnett, Myla Grace Barnett, his sister Virginia Brown, and life partner Nancy Jenkins. He was preceded in death by his parents J.W. and Mamie Jeffries, sisters, Iris North and Edna Pierce and brothers J.W Jr., Elton Ray, Hulon, Roland and James Douglas Jeffries. The funeral will be held 1:00 PM Thursday, March 8, 2012 at Martins Chapel Baptist Church by Rev. Jarrell. Interment will take place 3:00 PM Friday March 23, 2012 in Arlington National Cemetery. The family will receive friends following the funeral service at the residence. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Occaneechi Band of the Saponi Nation, Tribal Office, 103 East Center Street, PO Box 356, Mebane, NC 27302, www.obsn.org.
