In Joyful Remembrance of Carol Griffis

September 10, 1937 – October 26, 2026

On the evening of October 26, beneath the light of a full moon, Carol Griffis went to sleep and woke up in the loving arms of Jesus. Carol was a beautiful woman, filled with the joy of the Lord, a servant’s heart, unwavering faith, and a song in her heart. She was a devoted wife, loving mother and grandmother, cherished sister, and treasured friend. Her warmth, generosity, infectious joy, and the light of Jesus touched everyone who knew her.

Born in 1937 to Henry and Selma Jaeger, Carol grew up in Mt. Healthy, Ohio, and attended Ohio University, where she met her prince charming, Jerrold (Griff) Griffis. They married in 1959 and welcomed four children: Brad, Scott, Jenny, and Julie.

In 1971, the family moved to Bloomsburg, Pennsylvania, and in 1973 settled on their cherished 90-acre farm, Hidden Acres. For 40 years, it was a gathering place for family, friends, neighbors, students, and visitors.

Carol was a gifted homemaker and amazing hostess who made everyone feel welcome and loved. She served faithfully at Shiloh Bible Church, leading the children’s choir, singing, playing the organ, helping lead the senior group with Griff, and serving through church ministries. She was always willing to help wherever there was a need.

Carol and Griff opened their home to students, neighbors, and friends. Their Summer Kitchen bed and breakfast welcomed travelers with warm smiles and Carol’s delicious buttermilk pancake breakfast. She loved photography and capturing God’s creation and special moments. Music was dear to her; she often broke into song and introduced herself as, “I’m Carol, with a song in her heart.” Her Jewish apple cakes and homemade pig noses were treasured gifts. She loved wearing hats and taking time to know each person she met.

Above all, Carol loved the Lord. Her relationship with Him was the foundation of her life and the source of the light, strength, and joy so many recognized in her. Carol and Griff celebrated their 67th wedding anniversary this past August, a testament to a lifetime of devotion and enduring love.

Carol is survived by her beloved husband, Griff; children Brad, Scott (wife Anna), Jenny (husband Quint), and Julie; grandchildren Matthew, Michael, Macey, Maddox, Coralina, and Henriana; sister Adele; and brother Ed (wife Susan). She was preceded in death by her parents, Henry and Selma Jaeger, and brother Paul.

Carol’s life was a beautiful song of faith, love, service, and joy. Her legacy lives on in the family she cherished, the friendships she nurtured, the homes and hearts she opened, and the countless lives touched by her kindness.

“In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.” — Matthew 5:16
