Carolyn Stewart left this world on May 31 at the age of 87. The sun was shining brightly in her hometown of Burlington when she crossed into the eternal light and glory of her Savior, Jesus Christ.
Born in Cumberland County, NC she was the daughter of the late Pearl Mansfield and her stepfather John Mansfield, and her father, Lonnie Blackwelder Sr. She was a devoted wife of 65 years to the late Bobby Stewart.
Carolyn was a devoted homemaker until her children were grown and then worked for AT&T for a number of years. She was a member of Andrews Memorial Baptist Church for over 65 years during which she was a member of the choir and taught Sunday school. She loved traveling across the US with her husband, spending time in Myrtle Beach and Florida, but especially valued time with family and friends.
Carolyn is survived by her son Charles Michael Stewart, and wife Cathy of Orlando, FL; daughter, Sandra Leigh Stewart of Burlington; daughter-in-law, Martha Stewart Benfield of Salisbury; grandchildren Shana Stewart Wall, and husband Aaron of Julian, and Kara Stewart Karns, and husband Gabe of Columbus, OH; great grandchildren, Sean Wall, Corey Wall, Jasper Wall, Raelyn Karns, Vera Karns and Clay Karns; sister Frankie Layton and her husband John Layton, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
She is proceeded in death by her husband, Bobby Stewart, son Robert Allen Stewart, brothers Lonnie "Sonny" Blackwelder Jr., Bill Blackwelder and Charles Blackwelder, stepsister, Joanne Madren.
The family would especially like to thank the staff at Brookdale Senior Living, Authoracare Hospice of Burlington, and the many special angels who cared for her over the last many months.
A Celebration of Life service will be held on Wednesday, June 4, 2025, at 2:00pm at Lowe Funeral Home Chapel by Rev. Brandon Rouse. The family will receive friends from 1:00 - 1:45pm prior to the service at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers donations can be made to Andrews Memorial Baptist Church, 303 W. Elm Street, Graham, 27253.
