Cassie Victoria Ebert

There are some people who enter and leave your life quietly, and then there are those who enter your life, wrap themselves in it, and make sure you never forget them. That was Cassie Victoria Ebert.

Cassie, age 34, left this earth and her childhood home on September 27, 2026, while surrounded by her family. Born in Raleigh, North Carolina, she lived anywhere her spirit took her, always leaving behind a little more love, laughter, and light.

Cassie’s career was people, loving with passion, laughter, and extraordinary love. Her big heart and magnetic personality could make a mighty King sit down in the grass and talk about trees and life, and could make the man living on the street believe he could be a mighty King. She had a remarkable gift for making every person she encountered feel heard, valued, and seen. She was such a big part of every space she entered that you couldn’t help but be drawn to her. She didn’t really give you a choice.

She was giggly. She was loving. She was funny. She was stubborn. She was passionate. She was tender. She was complicated. And she was completely, wonderfully, unapologetically Cassie.

Cassie was obsessed with geese, Mary Englebreit, dogs, especially her Maynard who was waiting for her, having salsa always available, buying gifts and giving them to you ahead of time because she simply couldn't stand to wait, and not keeping secrets. "Don't tell Cassie" was a family motto. She loved pens, paper, journals, doodling, and writing sweet little notes to people simply to make them feel loved. She could turn a scrap of paper, with a touch of her beloved tape that no one understood except her, into something someone would treasure forever. After meeting her first hospice nurse last week, Cassie wrote her a special note before the nurse ever left her side.

And oh, how Cassie loved to talk, a strong gene in her family, but she got the strongest ones. She called her friends and family at all hours because she had “just one more thing” to tell them—which, everyone knew meant seven more things. Then came the random thought, the "do you remember that..." things. The things that made perfect sense to Cassie.

Her family would give anything to hear those “one more things” a thousand times more.

One of the things that made Cassie the most proud was the prayer wall she created this past year. It became something extraordinary and beautiful—a reflection of her faith, her heart, her hopes, her struggles, and her determination. It got her through the days as she fought to gain her ground. And now, she has gained it. There is no doubt Cassie has already made friends in heaven and is creating a new prayer wall with all of us on it.

Cassie is survived by her father, Dave Randall Ebert, and wife, Lisa; her mother, Tracey King Rice, and husband, Barney; her grandfather, Bobby King, and his wife, Kum; her siblings, Caroline Ebert, Chase Ebert and wife, Caroline; her siblings-in-love, Brent and Jennifer Rice, and Anna and Justin Foutz; her beloved nieces and nephews, Colton James Ebert, her favorite human on the planet, Cooper Amelia Ebert, Cohen Chase Ebert, Brayden and Avery Palmer, and Everett Hayes Rice; and her lifelong best friend, partner in crime, and giggle buddy, Nicole Matherly. And wonderful aunts, uncles, and cousins. She was preceded in death by her grandmothers, Linda King and Martha Ebert, and her grandfather, Paul Ebert.

A celebration of Cassie’s life will be held at 11:00AM Saturday, October 3, 2026, at Long's Chapel Christian Church with visitation to follow in the fellowship hall. The service is open to anyone who loved Cassie and her family.
