Catherine Lee Thompson Loyd

Catherine Lee Thompson Loyd, 97, of Burlington, passed away on Sunday, August 16, 2026 at Alamance Regional Medical Center. She was born in Halifax County, VA to the late Major B. and Sarah Leigh Thompson and was married to the late Eddie Wise Loyd.

She was a homemaker and farmer, and enjoyed trips to the mountains with her family. She also loved her cats, cooking and her flowers. Catherine was a loving and devoted daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and great great grandmother.

She is survived by her children, Rosie Dye and her husband George, Sue Simpson, Pattie Jane Mathis, Deroy Loyd and his wife Linda, and Donald Edward “Donnie” Loyd; eighteen grandchildren; numerous great grandchildren and great great grandchildren; sister, Becky Creed; and son-in-law, Lialo. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, daughters, Elsie Mae Emory, Carolyn Anne Oakley; sons, Eddie Wilson Loyd, Ernest Wise Loyd and Lacy Reid Loyd; sister, Ruby Walton and brothers, Elwood, George, and Roy Thompson and Danny Stone.

A service to celebrate her life will be held at 11:00 AM Friday, August 21, 2026 at Lowe Funeral Home Chapel by Pastor Steve Pruitt with burial to follow at Alamance Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 9:30 to 10:45 Friday prior to the service at the funeral home.
