Cheryl Anne Cummings, 77, of Elon passed away peacefully Tuesday June 3, 2025 at Alamance Regional Medical Center after a brief illness. She was born on December 13, 1947 to the late James E. Tate and Virginia L. Tate. Cheryl married her best friend and the love of her life David R. Cummings on February 14, 1970 and began an amazing 55 year journey through life together.
Cheryl spent her early married years realizing her dream of raising a family. Cheryl was often found supporting her kids at school by being the “home room” mother and supporting her kids through their educational years. Cheryl was often the loudest voice in the stands at the all the sporting events and school activities she attended while supporting her kids. No matter the circumstances, she was always present and supportive of her kids. Cheryl never gave up on her kids no matter the circumstances. Through the difficult teenage years, to early adult life, no matter what problem was presented, Cheryl was a voice of reason and helped her kids through whatever issues they had. She was a truly remarkable mother who pushed her kids hard to be successful and follow the word of the Lord.
As Cheryl’s kids began to grow up, she embarked on a career in Real Estate. She found much success and made lifelong friends. She enjoyed helping people achieve home ownership and was extremely proud of the work she did. In April of 2000 Cheryl began a new journey in life, being a Grandmother. “Grandma” as she was affectionately known as made her life mission make sure her Grandchildren did not have to go to daycare and had a truly nurturing early childhood. Cheryl’s impact on her Grandchildren will have a profound impact on them the rest of their life.
Cheryl is survived by her husband David R. Cummings of the home, Children: Tiffany Moore (Bud) of Burlington, David ‘DJ” Cummings (Nicole) of Haw River, and Stephen T. Cummings (Courtney) of Salem, WV. Grandchildren: Amanda Lewis (Dalton), Eli Cummings, Avery Cummings, Max Cummings, Tyler Moore (Kelli), Ryan Moore, and Wyatt Moore. Brother Tim Tate (Lynn) and a great grandchild, Rorie Moore, and a host of nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a sister Gina Williams (Bob) and Terry Tate. Cheryl’s family would like to extend sincere appreciation and gratitude to the awesome nursing team on the 2nd floor of Alamance Regional Medical Center during Cheryl’s last days.
A graveside service to celebrate her life will be held on Friday, June 6, 2025 at 11:00AM at Alamance Memorial Park by Rev. Tim Robinson. The family will receive friends from 9:30-10:45AM prior to the service at Lowe Funeral Home and Crematory, and other times at the home.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations made Cheryl Cummings memory to The Humane Society of Alamance County.
