It is with profound sorrow and heartfelt reflection that we announce the passing of Cheryl Henderson Gavin Araujo, a woman whose radiant spirit touched the lives of many. Born on May 9, 1947, Cheryl departed this world on May 20, 2026, leaving behind a legacy defined by generosity, joy, and an unwavering love for those around her.
Cheryl was an extraordinary soul, endowed with an amazing spirit and a heart vast enough to embrace all she encountered. Selfless in nature, she consistently placed the happiness and well-being of others above her own needs. Her love extended broadly—cherishing every person she met and embodying the true essence of kindness. This intrinsic compassion was matched by her vivacious enthusiasm for life, reflected intense love for music and dancing and a commitment to maintaining an active lifestyle through her outdoor walks and workouts, none of which she would ever have considered doing without her lipstick on.
A true steward of nature’s beauty, Cheryl delighted in gardening, tending lovingly to her flowers which flourished under her care. The simple joy found among blossoms was a profound source of fulfillment for her. She also nurtured a deep connection to the outdoors, frequently visiting Walden Pond and Cape Cod, places that inspired her with their serene landscapes and timeless charm.
Her passions extended beyond the natural world; Cheryl was an avid fan of the Boston Red Sox, embracing the spirit of the game with fervor and pride, celebrating each victory as if it were her own. This enthusiasm revealed her spirited nature, one that cherished community and tradition.
Cheryl leaves behind a loving family who carry forward her legacy of love and warmth. She is survived by her devoted daughter, Jill Davis, and fiancé Brad; her cherished son, Douglas Araujo; and beloved grandchildren, Gavin Davis and his fiancé Julie, as well as Robert Davis; great granddaughter, Charlotte Louise Davis; sister, Jean Theroux.
Her memory is deeply held by those who loved her, and it is with a solemn reverence that we remember those who have gone before her: her father, Laurence James Gavin; her mother, Dorothy Mae Sherwood Gavin; and her brother, Keith Gavin. Their presence in her story remains ever a quiet yet enduring influence.
Those who knew Cheryl will carry her memory forward in acts of kindness, shared laughter, and by always remembering to dance whenever possible. Her life reflected an intense love for music and dancing, a passion she shared with everyone around her. As we honor her, let us never forget to dance, as Cheryl always found something to dance about.
A Celebration of Life will be held in Massachusetts at a later date.
