Ruth Christine “Chris” Swain Broach, of Graham, NC (formerly of Mansfield, OH), passed away peacefully at her residence on Sunday, April 5, 2026 after several months of failing health.
Raised on a Fremont, OH vegetable farm, she later became a cosmetologist and moved to Mansfield, OH to raise her family. There, she enjoyed boating and camping with her closest friends, along with a special talent for producing “blue-ribbon” winning quilts. She eventually moved to North Carolina where she developed a new talent for country dance, forming some of her closest friendships. After a dedicated career at the University of North Carolina, she lived a life filled with kindness, faith and friendship.
As a woman of faith, she was a devoted attender at The Lamb’s Chapel church. She loved attending Bible studies and formed deep, lasting friendships there. She also loved spending time with her two card-playing groups, where laughter and camaraderie were always present. Her favorite past-time was spending it with family. She loved her kids, but behind every great sister is a brother who has her back and was thankful for Rich, who was her shield and greatest support. Her beloved dog Zoey was the light of her life and they shared a mutual devotion to each other.
Chris is survived by her two children, Karen Broach and Doug Broach; a brother, Rich Swain (Betty); favorite uncle, Glenn “Curly” Swain; a special niece, Angela Davidson and very special great niece and incredible care-taker, Samantha McKeown and her son, Nate; along with several other nieces, nephews, cousins and their families. She was preceded in death by her parents, Wyman Leo Swain and Pauline Rose Chellis Jacobs; step-mother, Phoebe Swain; step-father, Paul Jacobs; long-time companion, Norman Kirby; and sister, Shelia Freeman.
A memorial service will be held at 3:00 PM Friday, April 10, 2026 at The Lamb’s Chapel by Pastor Ken Smith. The family will receive friends from 2:00 – 2:45 PM Friday at the church prior to the service.
