Clara Andrews Handy, 78, a cherished mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend, passed away on Wednesday, November 5, 2025, at Moses Cone Hospital, surrounded by her loving family. She was born on January 25, 1947, in Guilford County, to the late Julius Vance “J.V.” Andrews and Evelyn Barber Andrews, and was the wife to the late Robert "Bob" Sherman Handy.
Clara dedicated her career to serving others, first as a valued employee with Sears, Roebuck and Company in Greensboro, and later, as a caring school bus driver for the Guilford County School System. Her sense of duty and love for children made her a beloved figure in the community, where countless families trusted her with their most precious treasures, their children.
A devoted member of McLeansville Baptist Church, Clara was actively involved in various church activities, pouring her heart into every endeavor. Her faith was a guiding light that led her through life, bringing her joy and comfort. Clara found peace and fulfillment in her hobbies, particularly in tending to her flowers and gardening, which reflected her nurturing spirit. She cherished the beautiful moments spent on beach trips with her family, where laughter and love filled the air, creating memories that would last a lifetime.
Clara leaves behind a legacy of love and strength through her children, Ricky Brown, Tasha Kastner and her husband Mike, and Anthony "Tony" Handy and his wife Susan; her grandchildren that she adored, Heather Stephenson, Melissa Lenhart and her husband Bryan, Ben Kastner, Nick Kastner, Noah Kastner, Jamie Stollings, and Joshua Handy; great-grandchildren, Tyson Stollings and Elizabeth Stephenson, who brought her immense joy and pride; a brother, Julius "Junior" Andrews and his wife Catherine; her sister, Virginia "Ginny" Andrews; and several nieces and nephews who will carry her spirit in their hearts.
Clara has now been reunited with her parents, Julius “J.V.” and Evelyn Andrews, and her beloved husband of 22 years, Robert "Bob" Sherman Handy, who passed in July 2023. Their love for each other was a story of partnership, commitment, and shared dreams that will forever hold deep within the family.
