Burlington - Clem Payton Powell, 76, of 227 S. Gurney St. died on Wednesday, July 19, 2006 at the Hospice Home. He was born in Danville, VA, son of the late Payton Bigus Powell and Inez Harris Powell who survives. Clem was a former employee of Sunbeam Bakery and former member of the Lions Club. He attended Bethany Presbyterian Church and was a former member of Grove Park Baptist Church. He is survived by his wife, Sonia D. Powell of the home; mother, Inez Harris Powell of Greensboro; daughters and sons-in-law, Pam Hester of Burlington, Debbie and Tom Parler of Burlington, Cindy and James Brown of Gibsonville; son Mike Powell of Durham; grandchildren, Jimmy Powell, Chris Hester, Michael Powell, Chad Parler, Brandon Brown and Nathan Brown; 2 step grandchildren; 3 great grandchildren and sister, Kitty Linens of Burlington. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Annie Ray Powell, his father, and his son, Steve Payton Powell. The funeral will be held at 10:00 AM Friday, July 21, 2006 at Lowe Funeral Home Chapel with his nephew, Rev. Rob Linens officiating. Interment will follow at Alamance Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 6-8 Thursday evening at the funeral home. At other times the family will be at the residence and at the home of his daughter, Debbie Parler, 2506 Nottoway Terrace, Burlington.
