Concetta Dorothy Giardinella Breen, 91, affectionately known to all as Connie, peacefully departed from this world on Monday, August 11, 2025, at her home surrounded by loved ones. She was born on March 14, 1934, in Queens, New York to the late Ferdinand and Corradina Giardinella. Connie met the love of her life, the late William John Breen, at Western Electric in Manhattan NY. They married April 7, 1956, and had 54 happy years together before his death in 2010.
Connie dedicated herself to being a stay-at-home mom until the youngest of her seven children began middle school. She returned to the workforce later in life and retired after 17 years with the Human Resource Department at the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill. She loved the work she did and received many awards during her time there.
Family was always first to Connie and she loved being a mother, grandmother and Gigi. She was devoted to her children and always had an open door for the neighborhood kids or anyone her children brought home. Connie was an amazing cook and always had a place at the table for friends and family. She cherished the holidays and made sure to celebrate the milestones that mattered most in life. In addition to her love for family, Connie enjoyed spending time at the beach, was a competitive card player, and loved bowling and playing cornhole.
Faith played an integral role in Connie’s life; she enjoyed the community at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church and had a deep love of God. She enjoyed serving the community and especially loved her time volunteering with Meals on Wheels and Hospice.
Connie's legacy continues through her loving children, Corrie Wilson, Alice Bogle and her husband Benton, John Breen, Fred Breen, Mary Elizabeth Pinaula and her husband David, Bill Breen, and Michael Breen. She found immense joy and pride in her grandchildren, Jennifer Jones (Jeff), William Wilson (Sarah), Connie Wilson (Robert), Sarah Bogle (David Michael Cone), Anita Bogle, Maggie Bogle (Rob Morris), Mathew Breen, Caitlin Breen, and Ruth Breen; and her ten great-grandchildren, who were fortunate to have lots of fun memories of their GiGi.
Connie Giardinella Breen touched the lives of many with her kindness, grace, and devotion, and will be sorely missed by all who knew her. She will be remembered by her beautiful smile and her ready laugh.
The funeral mass to celebrate the life of Connie will be held at 11:00 AM Monday, August 18, 2025 at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church by Father Albert Puliyadan, with the burial to follow at Alamance Memorial Park. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 10:00 AM until 10:45 AM Monday at the church.
