Cora “Gerry” Moore Ray, 93, went home to be with her Lord on Wednesday, October 28, 2026 at Brookdale Assisted Living surrounded by her family. She was born on October 25, 1933 in Randolph County, Alabama to the late Edwin G. Moore, Sr. and Ina Henderson Moore, and was a loving wife to Mack Ray for over 71 years, who survives.
Gerry was a 1952 graduate of EM Holt High School. She was employed at Western Electric and later worked in the dietary department at Memorial Hospital, as well as at K-Mart. In her later years, she spent many happy hours looking after her grandchildren. She was an active member of Holly Hill Baptist Church and lived out her Christian values in every area of her life.
Survivors include her devoted husband, Mack Ray of the home; her loving daughters, Denise Haag and her husband Joe, and Lisa Roney and her husband Kenneth; her three grandsons that she adored, Ben (Lauren) Roney, Michael (Lauren) Roney and Matthew Roney; and her three great grandsons that were the apple of her eye, Easton, Eli and Mason Roney.
Gerry was preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Thelma Clark; and her brothers, Rev. Edwin G. Moore, Marshal J. Moore and James C. Moore.
The family would like to express their gratitude to the Brookdale Assisted Living nurses and staff, and to the hospice nurses with AuthoraCare for all their compassion, loving care and support that was shown to Gerry and to her family during her illness.
The funeral service to celebrate Gerry's life will be held at 12 noon Monday, November 2, 2026 at Lowe Funeral Home Chapel by Dr. Gene Hunsinger, with the burial to follow at Pine Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 10:45AM to 11:45AM prior to the service on Monday and other times at the home.
