Cora Evans Porter, age 92 went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, November 8, 2012 at Liberty Commons surrounded by her family. She was born July 16, 1920 to the late Mascus William "Mack" and Flora Corder Evans and was married for 58 years to the late Grady William Porter. Cora retired from Springwood Textiles. She was a longtime, loyal member of Central Baptist Church in Gibsonville, where one of her greatest joys was singing in the choir. Cora was a devoted and loving wife, mother and grandmother. She was much loved and will be greatly missed by her family. The family would like to express their thanks to Liberty Commons' caregivers and to Liberty Hospice for their care and support during the last year. Survivors include her daughters, Gloria Jean Perry Ronald of Burlington and Linda May Gary of Gibsonville; grandchildren, Teresa Hensley Tim, Wendy Jones, Cindy House Todd, Brandon May Rebecca and Corey May Alana; eleven great grandchildren, two great- great grandchildren and a sister, Rebecca Lewis Earl of Graham. She is preceded in death by her husband, parents, sisters, Mae Williams and Oma May and brothers, S.T. Evans, J.V. Evans and Clyde Evans. The funeral service will be held 11:00am Monday, November 12, 2012 at Lowe Funeral Home Chapel by Rev. Frank Jones with the burial to follow at Alamance Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 4-6pm on Sunday at Lowe Funeral Home and other times at the home of her daughter, Linda May.
