David Wayne Howell, 80, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Friday, April 24, 2026, at his home. He was husband of 49 years to Mary Ann Rice Howell and a resident of Guilford County. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend.
In addition to his wife, Mary Ann, David is survived by his children, Paula Howard (Randy) of Burlington, John Hill (Sharon) of Winterville, David Alan Hill of Graham, Kelly Howell (Wesley) of Eden, and Lisa Boswell (Shannon) of Liberty, 15 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, and his sister Elizabeth (Liz) Barker of Florida. He was preceded in death by his parents, Daniel Rucker and Dora Brammer Howell, son Jerry Howell, grand-daughter Kimber Elise Long, and siblings; Goldie, Carlene, Gene, Lillie, Allen, and Mac.
David was a proud veteran of the US Navy where he served aboard the USS Lexington. He later worked in the textile industry and retired from Pam Trading. After retirement, he worked at Ocean Isle Beach Pier where he enjoyed fishing and socializing with visitors. At every opportunity, David really liked to share a good meal with family and friends, and even more so if he could use a coupon. He had a knack of assigning special nicknames to those he loved most, his children, grandchildren, and even close family friends. His laughter, lighthearted approach to life, and unique sayings will truly be missed.
David was a former member of Bethel Baptist Church and Bible Baptist Church, and attended The Lamb’s Chapel for the last several years. He was confident in his personal relationship with Jesus Christ and prayed for others to have that same assurance.
A service to celebrate his life will be held at Lowe Funeral Home on Thursday, April 30, 2026, by Rev. David Jackson, and Dr. Mark Aheron. The family will receive friends from 5:00-6:45 prior to the service at the funeral home. A private burial will take place at Kerr’s Chapel Baptist Church at a later time.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Alamance Christian School or Alamance County Veterans at ALCOVETS.
