Davis Leon Goodman, 93, flew home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, May 31, 2022 at Alamance Regional Medical Center.  Born in Madison County, FL on February 5, 1929 to the late Daniel Levy and Lenor Lee Davis Goodman, he is survived by his wife of 71 years, Sarah Hudson Goodman, along with daughters, Janice Caissie (Paul), Brenda Saunders (Craig) and son Glenn Goodman (Ava); grandchildren, Eric Caissie, Kenneth Caissie (Kaitlin), Rev. Jonathan Goodman (Laura), Dr. David Goodman (Bethany) and Amanda Saunders; 10 great grandchildren, 2 great great grandchildren; a younger sister, Lavonne Bowman and numerous nieces and nephews.  He was also preceded in death by 2 sisters and a brother.

Accepting Christ as his Savior as a young man he became a faithful Christian and later a loving family man, leaving FL farm life at 21 and beginning a 24 year career in the U.S. Air Force, including 12 months and 113 missions over N.Vietnam earning the Distinguished Flying Cross among other medals. As an aviator his desire to be involved in mission aviation led him at retirement to NC and Piedmont Baptist College’s start-up aviation department in 1975 where he developed an FAA approved flight and maintenance school, known as Missionary Aviation Institute (MAI).

In later life he became a representative for Edward Jones Investments all the while researching for grant money to purchase, upgrade and equip Cessna aircraft for overseas ministry and starting Harvesters International Mission known today as Missionary Air Group based here in Burlington with operations in S. America. He also helped begin Mission Flight Group in Lexington, NC with several from MAI to aid in training mission aviators.  In his “spare time” he always found time to serve in the church in various ways and spend time with his family and friends.

A service to celebrate his life will be held at 2:00pm on Monday, June 6, 2022 at Lowe Funeral Home Chapel.  The burial with military honors will follow at Alamance Memorial Park.  The family will receive friends from 1-1:45 prior to the service at Lowe Funeral Home & Crematory.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Missionary Air Group at PO Box 5160 Burlington, NC 27216 or donate online at  https://www.flymag.org/donate or to the Mission Flight Group, 144 Ashmoor Ln., Lexington, NC 27295.
