Diana Kay Evans Burnette

April 22, 1945 — July 13, 2025

Gibsonville

Diana Kay Evans Burnette, lovingly known as Kay, age 80, passed away peacefully on Sunday, July 13, 2025, surrounded by her family at Beacon Place in Greensboro. She was born on April 22, 1945 in Alamance County, to the late Augustus Duplin Evans, Sr. and Kathryn Rudisell Evans, and was the wife to the late Edward Burnette.

Kay dedicated thirty years of her life to Gilbarco Veeder-Root, where her commitment to her work was matched only by her ability to connect with people. After retirement, she continued to find joy in connecting with people, working part-time at The Mill and later at Lighting Etc. in Gibsonville, where she relished the chance to socialize and engage with the community. Kay was known as a people person; she had a unique gift for making everyone feel special in her presence.

In her younger years, Kay found enjoyment in drawing and painting. She later took up carpentry and woodworking, which led to a lifelong hobby of building and repurposing furniture. Her creativity was a reflection of her ability to see beauty in transformation. Kay was deeply devoted to her faith and was a proud longtime member of Hope River Church. For many years, she volunteered in the nursery, helped with Sunday school classes for young children, and eagerly participated in Bible school. Kay also frequently went above and beyond for her church community by volunteering to prepare meals for families in need, whether for funerals or to support those who were sick.

Kay leaves behind her devoted daughter, Robin Clapp and her husband Michael "Mike” Clapp, as well as her beloved granddaughter, Mikayla Grace Clapp. Kay had a special bond with her sister-in-law, Polly Smith, who was like a sister to her. She is also survived by several nieces, nephews, and cousins who loved her dearly. Kay has now been reunited with her parents, her husband Edward Burnette, her brothers Augustus D. "Butch" Evans Jr. and Mark Stephen Evans, a nephew Jeff Evans, a niece Kelly Evans, and her paternal grandparents Elijah and Nellie Evans who raised her.

As we celebrate the extraordinary life of Kay Evans Burnette, we remember her generous spirit and devotion to her family and community. She will be greatly missed but forever held in our hearts.

The funeral service will be held at 2:00pm Thursday, July 17, 2025 at Hope River Church by Pastor Larry Pope and Pastor Kelly Goudy, with the burial to follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 12:30pm to 1:45pm Thursday prior to the service at the church.

Memorials may be made to Hope River Church, 4355 High Rock Road, Gibsonville, NC 27249.
