Elon – Diane Agnes Halliday, 86, passed away on Friday, May 2, 2025. Born in Rahway, New Jersey, she was the daughter of the late Charles J. Wadas and G. Sue “Mormor” Wadas. She was the devoted wife of the late Joseph Halliday, with whom she shared 61 loving years of marriage.
Diane was a graduate of Springfield Regional High School in New Jersey. In 1959, she and Joe relocated to North Carolina, where they made their home and raised their family. Diane dedicated over three decades of service as a School Secretary with Burlington City Schools, retiring in 1999. She also served as a Girl Scout leader for many years.
In retirement, Diane enjoyed teaching water aerobics, a reflection of her vibrant and active spirit. A passionate fan of college basketball and football, she found great joy in cheering on her favorite teams. She cherished time spent traveling with her family, going on cruises, and playing Bingo.
Diane was a longtime member of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, where she was actively involved with St. Lucy’s Circle and sang in the church choir for many years.
She is survived by her daughter, Wendy Halliday Ulmer and husband Tom of Ohio; her son, Charles Joseph Halliday of Oklahoma; grandchildren, Cristal Haley and husband Chad, Courtney Wise and husband Chris, Avery, and Owen of Oklahoma; Jaclyn Crocker and fiancé James Gainey of North Carolina; Rachael Kennedy and wife Victoria, and Logan Crocker of Tennessee; five great-grandchildren; her sister, Sandy Kerr and husband Frank of Florida; her brother, John Wadas and wife Louise of California; and her beloved cat, Charlie. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, brother Greg Wadas, and son-in-law Ray Crocker.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, May 9, 2025 at 11:00 a.m. at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church with Father Vincent Rubino, O.F.M. Conv. officiating. The burial will follow at Alamance Memorial Park. A public viewing will take place from 10:00-11:00 a.m. prior to the service at the church.
