Dianne Smith Perry Laws, 82, of Burlington NC, a beloved wife and mother and cherished member of her community, departed this life suddenly on Monday May 11, 2026, at Alamance Regional Medical Center. She was born on October 23, 1943, in Alamance County to the late Ernest Roland Smith and Ruth Cotten Smith.
Dianne’s life was marked by a beautiful blend of dedication, warmth, and joy. For forty-two faithful years, she served as a legal assistant to Attorney Robert E Long, a career reflecting her unwavering commitment and work ethic. Beyond the office, she was a woman who embraced life, touching everyone she met with her kindness and radiant smile.
A proud member of Tabernacle Baptist Church, Dianne shared her musical talents by playing the piano in her earlier years. Her love for the church and its community remained a cornerstone of her life. Dianne found happiness in simple pleasures-spending treasured moments with friends and family at the family beach house in Oak Island, working crossword puzzles and even fishing at times with her husband Robert. Dianne always took pride in her appearance and was known to lovingly fuss at “her girls” whenever they appeared in public without make-up.
Dianne had three great loves in her life. Her Savior Jesus Christ, her loving husband Robert Keith Laws, Sr. who survives her and her first husband John Philip Perry who passed away in 2004. Dianne is also survived by her daughter, Amy Stout and Amy’s husband Kim, foster sisters Vicky Boltinghouse, Summer McGlothin, Kaden Asbury and Katie Asbury whom she loved dearly. She is also survived by stepchildren Robert Keith Laws, Jr. and Teresa Schlick along with her step-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren.
Dianne has now been reunited with her loving parents, Ernest and Ruth Smith, her first husband Philip, her best friend Gwynn Ray and her special cousin Jo Ann Ray Black and will spend eternity with them worshiping Jesus.
The celebration of the life of Dianne will be held at 2:00PM Friday, May 15, 2026, at the church she loved so much Tabernacle Baptist Church. Her pastor Rev. Norman Fargis will be officiating. The burial will follow at Alamance Memorial Park. Her family will receive friends Friday prior to the service from 12:30PM to 1:45PM at the church.
Honor her for all that her hands have done and let her works bring her praise at the city gates. Proverbs 31:31
