Donald “Donnie” Gene Pennington, 80, passed away peacefully on Friday, August 2, 2024 at the Hospice Home. He was born on August 14, 1943 in Alamance County to the late John Otis Pennington and Mary Maggie Wren Pennington.
Donnie retired after 40 years with United Brotherhood of Boilermakers Local 30. He was a well-known welder and would volunteer to weld for anyone that needed something welded. Donnie was a member of the International Brotherhood of Boilermakers and a member of Antioch Baptist Church. He enjoyed collecting all kinds of antiques and collectibles, but most of all he enjoyed spending time with his family.
Survivors include his loving sons, Charles “Charlie” Pennington and his significant other, Kim Whitfield, Gary Pennington and wife Margo, and Jared "Precious" Pennington; his grandchildren, Kassidy Pennington, Donavan Pennington and wife Angelia, Briana Pennington and significant other, Brandon Vestal, Kierra Pennington and Tuesday Pennington; great grandchildren, Mia Pennington and Kendall Vestal; and the mothers of his children, Myrtle Pennington and Katie Pennington Fields.
Donnie was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Nellie Kizer; his brothers, Robert “Bobby” Pennington, Thomas “Tommy” Pennington, Walter “Marshall” Pennington and James “Jimmy” Pennington, and his canine buddy, Petey.
The funeral service to celebrate the life of Donnie will be held at 2:00pm Tuesday, August 6, 2024 at Lowe Funeral Home Chapel by Rev. Steve Loy with the burial to follow at Linwood Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 12:30pm to 1:45pm Tuesday prior to the service at the funeral home and other times at the son, Gary Pennington’s residence in Graham.
