Doris Neal Butler Byrd, a cherished figure in our lives, passed away peacefully on June 18, 2025, at the age of 97. Born on February 3, 1928, Doris was a woman of strength, grace, and unwavering faith—a true embodiment of a strong Christian woman.
Doris was an exceptional Executive Assistant at Clemson University whose organizational skills were admired by all who worked alongside her. Her commitment to excellence not only defined her professional career but also reflected her dedication to her family and home. Educated at Anderson High School in Caswell County and The Women's College of UNC, Doris made straight A's, a testament to her diligence and bright mind.
A devoted wife and mother, Doris took great pride in being the driving force behind her husband’s successful career at Clemson. Her unwavering support and encouragement helped shape their family’s journey and influence countless lives along the way. She relished her role as a homemaker, filling her home with warmth, love, and laughter. Doris had an infectious spirit that drew people to her; she had a unique ability to find the good in everyone she met, often sharing a hearty laugh that echoed warmth throughout her community.
Doris leaves behind her loving son, Michael Neal Byrd, who will miss her deeply, along with her beloved sisters, Shirley Compton, Naomi Parker, her devoted brother, Melvin Butler (Mary), as well as nieces and nephews. Doris is also reunited in spirit with her beloved parents, Eugene Stokes Butler and Florence Iona Saunders Butler, and her siblings Brenda Serns, Lois Aldridge, Frances Page, Ruby Swift, Elma Sommers and Alene Paschall, who have all preceded her in death.
A graveside service to honor her remarkable life will be held at the Bush Arbor Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery in Yanceyville, NC, on June 25, 2025, at 11:00 AM, Doris Neal Byrd will be profoundly missed but forever remembered for her love, kindness, and the light she brought into the lives of those around her. Her legacy of faith, family, and friendship will continue to inspire and uplift all who knew her. Memorials may be made to the charity of your choice.
