Dot was born February 25, 1930 in Sampson County to James E. Strickland, Sr. and Sallie Strickland. She was known by many as a very sweet person. Always neat and clean, she lived her life grounded in Christian values, regularly attending church and finding joy in her spiritual community. Dot also had a great sense of humor and strong-willed character. Above all, she treasured her daughter, Karen Lynn Coltren.
Dot is survived by her daughter; her sister, Betty Scruggs; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Paul Coltren; her parents; sisters, Grace Craven, Lois Turlington, and Margaret Wilson; and brothers, James Strickland, Jr., Harold Strickland, and Charles Strickland.

With heartfelt love and appreciation, Dot’s family would like to express sincere thanks to her nephew, Mr. Jeff Younger, for his faithful and loving care of our beloved mother, sister, and aunt over the years. His devotion demonstrates true Christian faithfulness.
