Dorothy McClain Long, 85, formerly of Lee Drive went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, January 17, 2010. A native of Alamance County, she was the wife of the late Vernon Braxton Long and the daughter of Robert and Rosa McClain, both deceased. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and aunt. Prior to failing health, Vernon and Dot loved traveling to the mountains and beach. Survivors include two daughters, Rosemary Pike of Gibsonville and Cindy David Dixon of Mebane; three grandchildren, Lindsay Pike of Washington, D.C., Kelly Pike of Durham and Josh Stephanie Dixon of Huntersville, NC. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, a brother, Howard McClain and four sisters, Nolie Boland, Nellie Faulkner, Lee Webster and Gaynelle Fogleman. The funeral service will be held at twelve o'clock noon at Grove Park Baptist Church by Dr. Eugene Hunsinger and Rev. Bill Vickrey with interment to follow at Alamance Memorial Park. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church and at other times at the home of the daughter, Cindy, 457 W. Carr St., Mebane. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Grove Park Baptist Church, 108 Trail One, Burlington, NC 27215.
